Spain - Getting There
Spain has more than 30 international airports, with the main ones located close to Madrid, Barcelona, Alicante, Malaga and Valencia. The national airline is Iberia, which operates routes to worldwide destinations. Many other national airlines fly to Spain, including a number of low-cost airlines from the UK. Approximate flight times to Madrid are two and a half hours from London, eight and a half hours from New York and thirty hours from Sydney.
Spain has excellent motorway links with France and Portugal. The main routes out of Spain to the North are from Bilbao to Bordeaux/Toulouse and from Barcelona to Marseille or Toulouse.
There are direct rail routes from Madrid to Paris and Lisbon, and from Barcelona to Paris, Zurich, Milan, Montpelier and Geneva. Within the country, there are excellent connecting services to all main towns and cities in other parts of Spain. There are also passenger ferries between the UK and the Spanish ports of Santander and Bilbao.
